Howard Thurman: Mysticism & Social Change

Howard Thurman: Mysticism & Social Change

Instructor Dr. Liza J. Rankow

Thursdays, beginning March 7, 2019

Howard Thurman was a 20th century religious leader and thinker whose prophetic vision and quiet mentorship were instrumental to Martin Luther King Jr. and many others in the struggle for freedom and justice. Thurman’s life and work reveal the powerful synergy between mystic spirituality and social action, the inseparability of personal and social transformation. Through readings, discussion, audio and video resources we will explore the relevance and implications of Thurman’s wisdom for contemporary times, and for each participant’s own life journey.
